History The business started in 1979 when Jim Carruthers commenced as an owner operator with one backhoe. During this period the business established the Carruthers name and reputation in the plant hire industry, expanding to a fleet of approximately 10 machines. At that time, Jim made the decision to change direction and formed a fresh company 'Palmgrove Holdings Pt Ltd.' Under Jim's direction the company ventured into contract labor to broaden their client bottom and enlarge stability. Over the years Jim worked tirelessly to establish a reputation for honesty, reliability, firm labor and good service. In 1992 Jim had an office and depot constructed in the Cooroy industrial estate from where the business operated for several years. The name Carruthers Plant Hire was no longer appropriate for the type and scale of contracts being undertaken and the name 'Carruthers Contracting' was adopted to portray the correct nature of the business. The business soon out grew the Cooroy facility, necessitating an expansion of facilities. A fresh purpose designed facility consisting of offices, maintenance and mend workshop along with a fully equipped works depot was constructed on a much larger scale at Yandina.

Jim Carruthers (Director) Jim is the director of the company. Jim has over 30 years experience in all facets of the courteous contracting industry. Over the years Jim has had the vision and appropriate sense to train and mentor many young people through his company, including assisting his own sons James and Bradley to total apprenticeships and accomplish certificates in management. James is now occupied as a precious member of the estimating team. They manage the overall day to day performance of the individual sites the foremen are running. Our supervisors are highly experienced people with many years in the civil construction industry, and are able to help the foremen as necessary to ensure that our tall standards are reached on all of our projects. All foremen have an extensive range of knowledge, experience and capabilities covering all areas of polite construction including earthworks, pavement, concrete, sewer, storm water and water mains. This highly proficient team is responsible for all production onside including environmental, safety and quality control. Since it’s establishment Carruthers Contracting has successfully constructed projects of varying degrees of scale and complexity from simple driveway formations and infrastructure works, to million dollar master planned subdivisions comprising cooperation with Main Roads Department, Council, and other Authorities.
